Salina, Kansas Travel Guide

Complete Vacation, Recreation and Tourism Information

Salina, seventh largest city in Kansas, has a population of 46,000. Sitting at the heart of the nation, it has one of the greatest wheat productions on earth.

For a small town, Salina has a variety of stores that carry a multitude of different products. There's no room for want here. Restaurants are plentiful, specializing primarily in American, Italian, and Mexican cuisine. There's also fast food, of course, and a splattering of Chinese and Swedish eateries.

The Endiron Estate Bed & Breakfast adds a romantic flavor to the list of sleeps here. The only B&B in Salina is a well-known and beloved fixture in town with exquisite features. There are also several motels and two camp sites available.

Theatre-goers revel in the splendor of The Stiefel Theatre for the Performing Arts. Not only are the performances thrilling, but the building itself has a magical presence with glittering chandeliers, gold-leaf decor, and a magnificent staircase.

There are 25 municipal parks in town covering over 600 acres of trees and flowers. The Municipal Golf Course sits on 137 acres of green carpet where more than 46,000 rounds of golf are played each year. The 18-hole course also has a youth training facility where young people can learn the skills of the sport.

Excellent equestrian facilities are provided by the E Bar Z Stables on North Ohio. Equestrian paths here run for 235 acres through scenic terrain and wildlife habitats. Many different types of avian species as well as raccoons, deer, and wild turkey can be observed along the way. Indoor and outdoor arenas are provided, as well as boarding facilities. Lessons are offered to those who wish to improve their equestrian skills.

For a tranquil time on the beach, Lakeside Recreational Park serves up a heap of R&R with hiking in the woods, and swimming, boating or fishing on the lazy lake. The kids enjoy the paintball and basketball facilities as well. Ten miles from Salina, this camp is well worth checking out.

Salina is located at the crossroads of Interstates 70 and 135 in the Sunflower State.
