State capital Topeka has the expected selection of governmental sites but also find in this pleasant town a number of historic attractions, a museum or two and easily accessible lakeside activity.
The park offers primitive camping along the western lakeshore and is operated by the Corps of Engineers. If you really want to get away from it all, School Creek Park is the place to be. Located in farming country, the sounds of the city are just a distant memory. A mile north of the developed park is the School Creek off-road vehicle riding area. At one time a rock quarry, this site has a challenging array of trails for both the beginner and advanced rider. Vehicles in the ORV area must be 50" wide or less. No full size ORV vehicles allowed.
