Description
Named in honor of Kansas' native son, former president Dwight D. Eisenhower, Eisenhower State Park covers nearly 1,800 acres comprised largely of tallgrass prairie on the fringe of the Flint Hills. Cabins, yurts, a scooter trail, an archery trail, kids fishing pond, and more offer plenty of recreation in addition to the 6,930 acres of Melvern Lake.
The park is known for its extensive trails system for horseback riding, biking, hiking, and archery. There are 20 miles of horse and hiking trails within the park's boundaries and 22 miles of equestrian trails on the south side of the lake. Equestrians can also stay at equestrian campsites with corrals. Biking and hiking is available on the horse trail.
Wildlife-watchers will enjoy seeing white-tailed deer, eastern wild turkey, bobwhite quail, squirrels, furbearers and waterfowl. Bald eagles frequent the lake in the winter. Anglers seek walleye, crappie, sauger, white bass, and channel catfish. Melvern Reservoir is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.Campsites and RV hookups (including an equestrian area with corrals), Cabins and yurts, Swimming, Boating, Skiing, Fishing, Hunting (in the wildlife area and by written permission on the west side of the park), Wildlife-watching, Trails (including equestrian trails)
